It has a spicy and slightly sweet flavor and is typically made with a combination of red chiles, glutinous rice, a sweetener like malt syrup or rice syrup and fermented soybeans. The fermentation gives it a richer flavor and the chiles leave a nice kick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I buy my Gochujang from Whole Foods, but you can also find it as most Asian grocery stores or order off&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3dUlzPz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Amazon<\/a>. Alternatively Kimchi Mari also had a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/kimchimari.com\/how-to-make-gochujang-at-home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fantastic tutorial<\/a>&nbsp;on how to make Gochujang at home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-ingredients-needed\">Ingredients Needed<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Sesame oil<\/strong> &ndash; or peanut oil<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ground chicken<\/strong> &ndash; you could also use a different ground meat. You could also use the soy sauce, honey and gochujang paste as a marinade for chicken breast or chicken thighs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Garlic cloves<\/strong> &ndash; minced or grated<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ginger<\/strong> &ndash; finely grated or minced<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Bell Peppers<\/strong> &ndash; use any color<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Soy sauce<\/strong> &ndash; or use tamari if gluten-free<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Honey<\/strong> &ndash; or a different sweetener like maple syrup or brown sugar<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Gochujang paste<\/strong> &ndash; see note below for a replacement if you can&rsquo;t find it<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Salt and pepper<\/strong> &ndash; adjust to taste or reduce if watching sodium levels<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Garnish<\/strong> &ndash; <em>basil, sesame seeds, green onions<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Rice<\/strong> &ndash; for serving. Feel free to replace with ground turkey, ground beef or ground pork.<\/p> <\/div> <div class=\"schema-faq-section\" id=\"faq-question-1721835708126\"><strong class=\"schema-faq-question\">What if I don&rsquo;t eat rice?<\/strong> <p class=\"schema-faq-answer\">You can replace the rice with cauliflower rice or a different grain like quinoa or farro.<\/p> <\/div> <\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-storage-instructions\">Storage Instructions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>These gochujang chicken bowls store well in the fridge for up to 3 days. I recommend making the rice right before eating but that&rsquo;s totally up to you. Reheat leftovers on the stove top or in the microwave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also make and freeze the gochujang chicken in advance. Simply cook as directed, store in an airtight container or freezer bag and freeze for up to 3 months.
